(GERMANY) MUNICH’S OCTOBERFEST

The ‘Octoberfest’ held in Munich is the largest festival worldwide, attracting numerous number of visitors both local as well as international. The first ever ‘Octoberfest’ was held in 1810 to celebrate a royal wedding with horse races and various culinary delights. Though the festival is called ‘Octoberfest’, it is actually held during the month of September. This is due to the Bavarian autumn as it could result in early snow. This festival not only promotes its wide range and variety of beers, but also offers roller coaster rides, parades, circus performances, as well as live brass bands. It is held on an area named Theresienweise, often called d'Wiesn for short.

The festival is starts off with the ceremonial opening which takes place in the noon. The mayor arrives in a festive coach followed by a decorated horse-drawn brewer’s cart. All the other people involved in the ‘Octoberfest’ are all dressed in the traditional costumes for the occasion. This entire event takes up three days in total, a time of partying and enjoying beers worldwide. Also, souvenir mugs can also be purchased at the festival itself. These mugs are made from heavy glass and it has a decorative brewery logo on the side.
